   History

12 years in the making

The Dunboyne Branch of Comhaltas was founded in late 2003 by Teresa Dunne and Carol-Anne Milner. It is still one of Meath’s youngest Comhaltas Branches. Classes commenced in 2004 with eight teachers and a full range instruments. Carol-Anne was very passionate about traditional Irish Music and worked hard in our branch until her untimely death in 2005 at the age of 45. Teresa continues now as branch secretary. Jacinta Ní Chonghaile a primary school teacher at Scoil Tulach na Nóg Dunboyne and takes the helm as chairperson of the the branch.

Tribute to Co-founder Carol-Anne Doherty 1960-2005

Carol-Anne loved music. It played a big part in her life and had a very special place in her heart. Carol-Anne’s involvement in Irish Music began in Manor House secondary school in Raheny. There Carol-Anne became involved in the Slógadh music competition and competed at the highest level. She moved to Dunboyne with her husband John and two children, Paul and Lisa in 1998. Carol-Anne always felt that there was great potential for a comhaltas group and was heavily involved in the establishment of Dunboyne Comhaltas with her good friend Teresa Dunne. She maintained  her involved with Dunboyne Comhaltas until her untimely death in October 2005. Carol-Anne would be have been delighted with the Dunboyne hosting of the Meath Fleadh in 2014 and 2015.
